September 25th and 26th, 2010 – Tire Rack Teen Street Survival driving school and Adult Car Control Clinic – Richmond

Once again we’ll be putting on our most important event of the year and teaching teen drivers advanced car control techniques to keep them (and everyone else) safe on the roads.

We’ve had such a great response from parents of teens over the last two years that this year we’ll also host an adult car control clinic as well! Teens will drive on Saturday, adults on Sunday.

For the new drivers, age 15 to 21, we have the Tire Rack Street Survival teen driving school on Saturday, September 25 at Richmond International Raceway (“RIR”). This is an all-day course where the students drive their own cars, under the watchful eye of their own experienced in-car coach, through a series of exercises simulating real-world emergency situations. They’ll learn what the car feels and sounds like just before it breaks away, will get plenty of practice at recovering the car, will experience the feel of full-panic, maximum ABS braking, will learn to manage the weight transfer in an emergency lane change, and more. Most important, they’ll have a major amount of fun while doing all that, in a safe and controlled environment. Street Survival is open to everyone—club member or not—and ownership of a BMW is not required. The cost is $75, and information and on-line registration can be found at www.streetsurvival.org.

Questions? Contact blueridgestreetsurvival@gmail.com.

For the over 21 crowd, the Blue Ridge Car Control Clinic will be on Sunday, September 26 at RIR. The exercises will be similar to what we do for Street Survival, but a bit more advanced to match the greater experience level of the older drivers. The cost will be $50, and to register send an email to blueridgecarcontrol@gmail.com and we’ll forward a registration form to you. Questions can also be addressed to blueridgecarcontrol@gmail.com. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REGISTER FOR THE CAR CONTROL CLINIC ON THE STREET SURVIVAL WEBSITE—they are entirely separate programs!

We always need volunteers to help with Street Survival. Street Survival is one of those “it takes a village” kind of endeavors, so if you’d like to volunteer to help out with the school, send an email to blueridgestreetsurvival@gmail.com
